  • our “DCREE”
    1. Do no harm.
In every thing we do, we are conscious of who and what it is affecting. In every endeavor we embark, the benefit always outweighs the harm by at least ten times, meaning the way we work with people, cities, and the earth is only to increase their livelihood. This can be seen in the materials we use, the products we promote, the way we build and plan, and our relationships with people.
    2. Create Balance.
Balance is defined as a harmonious or satisfying arrangement of parts or elements. This can be applied to all aspects of life and living, particularly in land development, personal development, and Spiritual development. We use the Taoist philosophy to help guide us to this balance. Evidence is in the way we build in respect to land and natural forces, design to promote home and natural flow, the health care and nutrition we offer, and the way we landscape.

    3. Reconnect.
Underlying everything we are working towards is reconnection, or unity, between one another, the earth, and our place in the universe. We have designed our development to reconnect people to what is true for all of us, and the essentials of what we really need. Gardens in every project let the community observe and participate in how bounty can spring from the earth and its cycles. Many aspects of our design are grounding, yet allow the Soul to expand to more and more infinite possibilities. Interaction with people is built in to all residential projects. Common areas encourage safe, friendly interaction, and community gardens, kitchens, celebrations, and activities string residents together like family. The all around feeling of home permeates the air and heart of 5 Element Development.

    4. Energize.
Energy is defined as vitality in expression. To energize something is to increase its capacity to live, grow, and develop. This means that our interactions with people nurture their growth and livelihood. It is our aspiration to express the vitality in every place we touch by ten times, meaning in redevelopment, we make the city ten times more satisfying and invigorating to live in, and in raw land development, we increase the plant and wild life ten times, turning monocultures into diverse food forests and promoting biomes and niches. Deep meaning is returned to the every day by enriching what is fundamental that brings joy, and eliminating unnecessary toils.

    5. Earth to Eden.
Some companies peak when the market shifts, or when new technology is born, or when the economy soars or crashes, but all have one thing in common: they either promote or depend on an end. 5 Element Development is working to end only one thing: Futile suffering. With every step forward we generate prosperity and joy. The end goal is Eden: a state of the earth and human consciousness that is whole and abundant. This is our top out, our glass roof, and the success that may cause our company to dissipate- but each of us have no greater aspiration in our work and in our lives than to see this realize.

How can you accelerate the positive impact you’re already making and amplify it to serve more people in more ways? How can you collaborate with souls who are dedicated to a better way of life for all people and driven to make the change we all dream of?
There are many paths to the same peak, but some are shorter and some are more treacherous- while one may offer such a clear, direct purpose that you will be called to step up and embody your destiny.
For me, this is one such path and as I share it with more and more, I am finding it is to be a path well traveled. I am honored and fervent to invite you to join us in this vehicle of change: 5 Element Development.

Five Element Development is committed to restoring balance between the forces of the Universe, including those that are inside each of us. Five Element Theory is based on Taoist Philosophy. The first rule of Chinese Medicine is “Do No Harm.” 5 Element Development takes this to heart; it is the first qualifier for all developing projects and methodologies. It is a matter of personal ecology, meaning do no harm to yourself, to the earth, or to others, and then aspire towards your dreams. No harm should come to the individual, to the environment, or to society as a whole, relative to the accomplished healing.

The current education system has been an example of planting seeds in bad soil, where the individuals growing are emotionally and even physically malnourished with no stable root base. Most children and even adults do not know how to care for themselves with out the help of the government. It is rare to find someone who can accommodate their basic needs without being a slave to a paycheck, and even more rare to come across a truly emotionally stable individual with all the tools he or she needs to overcome the stress of every day life in a manner that promotes health and a positive way to cope with trauma. How do you choose which groceries are the best to nourish your body? Do you know how to eat to prevent illnesses and cure those you already have? What if you needed to grow these foods? Would you know where to start? In your local community is there an opportunity to cultivate fruits and vegetables?
We as a society have become so obsessed with “knowledge” that we’ve forgotten how to live. Propelling objects and people into space or down cement aisles at 60 mph within three feet of each other is a daily feat for humanity, but finding a true way to be satisfied and happy is far fetched. This is an incredible wood imbalance, where the ego has ruled that intellect is greater than intuition and being right is more important than being content. 5 Element Development intends on countering this imbalance through the incorporation of Metal, or Spirit, into learning. Spirit is simply the true feeling and desire at the base of the individual where she feels connected to her true self and to all others. It is being true to yourself and your needs first and serving humanity after these needs are met. I.e. feed yourself, know how to handle your emotions and maintain your self esteem, and then give your inner gifts to the world; health from the inside out.

Health care in America has lost all connection to Spirit and the wisdom of our bodies. Instead, it treats the body like a machine and expects it to run cleanly with out taking into consideration the energy that runs through it. In fact, many practices in Western medicine are contrary to health and avoid all common sense. The Wood mentality most doctors and innovators in medicine have feeds the nature of Fire: burn bright, burn out. An example, chemotherapy is a method used to destroy cancerous cells in the body which is beneficial, but in the process it burns out the immune system causing long term damage and the probability for organ failure. Western medicine would rather remove a problem organ than change the diet that caused the problem. 5 Element Development encourages the nature of Water to overcome this imbalance: trusting the wisdom of the body and of the earth. Instead of treating symptoms, true wisdom looks to the source of the problem, realizing that each person has a unique make-up and emotional situation that needs to be dealt with at the core of the individual instead of prescribing a generic combination of cure-alls with side effects. Wisdom is empowering people to care for themselves, instead of using techniques that escape them so that they become dependant on an institution for wellness.

Society has become so evasive, finding clever ways to navigate around obstacles and obvious issues that they have forgotten what’s truly important. This Water imbalance has caused most people to turn away from issues that seem too difficult to deal with, like pollution, war, prejudice, and addiction. Instead of confronting these issues and taking a stand in their lives, people continue to “go with the flow” of ignorance, feeling that they are too insignificant by themselves to make a difference. Hunger has been “avoided” by those who aren’t hungry by not addressing it. Feelings of desperation are maneuvered around by finding an excuse for them. Procrastination is a prominent issue, whether it be children putting off homework or adults putting off their holidays or dreamers always scheduling “someday.” Using the element Earth to manage these Water issues means grounding and connecting people to what is most important in life: connection to self, one another, and the earth, and the health of all three. Earth promotes stability and being rock solid in your beliefs, not allowing anything or anyone to take from you what is most important.

“Take a deep breath” is a common expression for relieving stress and centering, yet most people have to take time to do so. Basic breathing is almost a forgotten art. Smoking is prevalent in society as a stress reliever, yet tobacco doesn’t have the properties of a sedative. Looking a new light, wellness practitioners are realizing that the most stress relief comes from the deep breath that smokers take with every drag. Breathing deeply is more than just the fresh supply of oxygen to the blood and brain, but also about the qualities of air itself. Air connects us to Spirit. Each breath changes us because we absorb some of its properties. The word ‘inspiration’ means to breathe in, but also to be filled with divine motivation. Inspiration in this form is behind every great art, act, event, or idea. It is the nature of metal most of us need to aspire towards our dreams and succeed.

  • taking over the world.
i'm sitting in an incredibly tall chair in the almost empty atrium at asu.
the lighting and general ambiance is creepy, as though machines have taken over and are sitting in a satisfied silence.
i'm expecting levitating ARs to meet my nose next time i look up. i wonder what lesson is in store here for me today.
then again, maybe this is just the effect that universities have on me.

!i look over to see my partner turned to pinky, and upon seeing myself reflected in the cold steel, i realize that i have become the brain!
    one is a genius!
    the other's insane!

  • i gave this dude $200 to talk to me for ten minutes, poke me in the throat, make me cry, hold me down and tickle me, pound on my ribs, suffocate me, and hold his hand down my throat for three minutes.
    fucking shamanism.
